We'll take a quick look at eight great country music legends who have left a lasting mark on the world with their talent, even if a few of them were taken from us pretty early on in life.

Topping our list is Johnny Cash. The indisputable kind of country, Cash was born in Arkansas, in February of 1923 and passed away September 2003. His long list of quality hits included Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire (which was written by June Carter, not long before she became June Carter Cash) and I Walk The Line (a song Johnny wrote specifically for June, also before she became his wife).

Hank Williams made a big impression on the music world in his brief 29 years of life. Born in Alabama the same year as Cash (1923), Williams passed away in January 1953. Hey Good Lookin', I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry and I'm A Long Gone Daddy are amongst the unforgettable songs that Hank left to fans before his untimely death. We're fortunate that he also left us his very talented son, Hank Williams Jr., who continues on the family tradition of classic country music.

Patsy Cline is another famed artist who lost her life far too soon. Cline passed away in 1963, at 30 years of age. Born in '32, in Virginia, she's remembered for evocative hits that include I Fall To Pieces and Crazy.

Fourth on the Eight Great list is not an individual, but a family act; The Carter Family. Of course, daughter June Carter Cash may be the most memorable of the clan. June became the second wife of singer Johnny Cash and was the absolute love of his life, probably long before he ever entertained the idea of June becoming his bride. Born in 1929, in Virginia, June, like her famous husband, passed away in 2003. The Carter family's musical numbers included Keep On The Sunnyside and Wildwood Flower. June's vibrant personality, musical talent (she was a wonderful writer as well as a singer) and beauty are not easily forgotten.

Willie Nelson is an artist who is still active in his field. Willie's made a name for himself with interesting personal ventures aside from his musical accomplishments. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1933, I'm sure Willie will have some creations still in store for his fans. Biggest hits to date; Stardust, Always On My Mind and On The Road Again.

One of Willie's contemporaries and a favorite singing partner, Waylon Jennings, was born in Littlefield Texas in 1937. Waylon left this world in 2002, leaving us a string of country music hits that included My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys and I'm A Ramblin Man.

George Jones, born in Beaumont Texas in 1931, has had a long run of musical success. His many hits would take too long to mention, so we'll credit two of the continually popular selections; He Stopped Loving Her Today and The Cold Hard Truth.

In the number eight spot on our tribute list is Conway Twitty. He performed many memorable duets with Loretta Lynn (most likely next on our list if we kept going) along with his solo achievements. Born in 1933, Twitty was a Mississippi boy. He passed away in 1993. Conway's hit songs included Hello Darlin' and After The Fire Is Gone.

Stars that shine this brightly never really go out. Even when they're no longer with us, their music will live on amongst following generations of listeners.

She is a legend in the industry and has been recording and producing music since 1975. She has also won the most Academy of Country Music Awards for best female vocalist topping the charts with 7 awards.

There are a lot of awards to be given out at this ceremony. Country music fans are also part of the process because they can vote for their favorite music videos. The genre of music has become very popular over the years because of new influences like country pop stars, online music channels, and Internet radio channels that play top country hits. A lot of country music is also played on pop stations. Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum are two examples of cross over country acts. The reclusive Twain has sold more than 40 million albums over the years with-flirty, hook laden, beat-heavy, country-tinged pop tracks that have all the subtlety of a musical wet T-shirt contest.

She is one of the most successful recording artists in history. Her CD Come On Over is the biggest selling album of all time by a female artist, making it the female equivalent of Michael Jackson's Thriller.

This long awaited and much anticipated Greatest Hits collection includes three new songs along with the predictable chart topping hits she's had. Most of the songs are up tempo groovable tunes which is exactly what Shania Twain fans will enjoy and appreciate.

19 out of the 21 songs on this CD are pure gold, and they are so varied in style that there is a song for every music fan.

The CD launches with the classic ballad, Forever and For Always then goes on to showcase the very impressive list of gold records Twain has had over the years. Containing a whopping 21 songs in all.

Impressively Twain writes all of her own songs and melodies on guitar and of course does a great job singing them as well.

Some of my own Shania Twain favorites are track 1, Forever and For Always, track 2 I'm Gonna Getcha Good, track 5, Man! I Feel Like A Woman! and on, and on, and on. Heck they're all good!

Country Music as we know it has been around for decades, with the 1920's seen as the 'era' of Country; with thousands of faces, some well-known, some fading into obscurity lining the Hall of Fame, who are the important figureheads in the history of Country Music? Who pioneered it, we know and love today? Here are some of the founders:

A.C Robertson

Alexander (known as Eck) Robertson recorded the first commercial Country Music song in 1922! He was born in 1887 and lived in Texas, growing up learning to play the fiddle, he eventually found himself with a recording contract. In 1922 Eck recorded the now famous track "Sally Gooden." It never made it big, and it didn't sell many copies, but he began the industry we know today.

As the first ever recorded artist, Eck Robertson certainly deserves to be considered a pioneer.

Vernon Dalhart

Vernon Dalhart had the first Country Singer to have a nationwide hit in 1924 -just 2 years after Eck Robertson sang, with "Wreck of the Old '97." Vernon was born in 1883 as Marion try Slaughter, he took his name from two towns were he worked. The Carter Family

The Carter Family was a group that recorded in the late 1920s to the late 1950s, they are considered to be the first Country vocal group, in the group was Delaney Carter, his wife Sarah Carter and his sister-in-law Maybelle Carter.

They made their first recording in 1927 with "Wandering Boy" and "Poor Orphan Child," later they created the well known, "Keep On the Sunny Side," and many more besides. Their songs became very popular and very well known.

Later though the group disbanded and split, with Maybelle singing with her children and occasionally the group re-uniting to sing a hit, merging with several family generations.

The Carter Family's songs have been covered by artists such as Joan Baez and even Bob Dylan, but as important as the songs were, the Carter Family pioneered a new way of playing the guitar the "Carter Style." With such influence on the world, the Carter Family deserves their place as an early pioneer.

It has a long history spanning decades, and these among other later pioneers have created the wonderful world of this music that we know today, they deserve their place in Country Music history.
