The music of Ghajini(Hindi) was released recently, scored by none other than A.R.Rahman. The Tamil Ghajini that was released a few years back had music scored by Harris Jeyaraj, who used to program scores and drum-percussion for many films under A. R. Rahman himself.
The Tamil film had some scorching songs and was a huge hit, both as a movie and as a music album. When the movie was announced to be remade in Hindi starring Aamir Khan with music by A.R.Rahman, the inevitable comparisons between the songs of the master and his erstwhile assistant were expected and the comparisons have now begun.
The Tamil album had two really good songs that are still popular with the radio stations. They were Suttum Vizhi and Oru Maalai. The other songs were good but, not taken up much as these two. Now, with the Hindi Ghajini, the scenario seems similar. Even though it's still early days, only two songs- Guzarish and Kaise Muje are exceptional and the other songs pale in comparison, despite being good.
Well, coming to the point of which of these albums is better- both the albums are good- but A. R. Rahman just seems to bring out a more varied album with the songs having great music. While the songs of Harris Jeyaraj seem monotonous with simplistic ( but pleasant) music, those of ARR have a wide spectrum of musical instruments and variations. Clearly the one and only master has come on top, but only just, since this album is not amongst his best.
Just a small fact- singer Karthik has sung in both the versions! In fact he won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer award for the song Oru Maalai.
