Copyright Law - How to Copyright Music

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Copyright protection for your music is extremely important. If you did not own the copyright to your music, anyone could use it in whatever manner they wanted. In other words, it could be copied without permission, performed at venues, or used for projects you may not endorse. As such, other people could be earning off the work you created while you receive zero credit.

Fortunately, there is the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. This convention sets out minimum standards of copyright protection that its signatory countries follow. There are over 150 countries that belong to the Berne Convention - so if you are reading this, your country probably belongs to the convention and follows the minimum standards.

- How to Copyright Music
According to the Berne Convention, copyright is automatic. What this means is, as soon as you put your music in a fixed form, you automatically own the copyright. So "how do you copyright music?" you put it in a fixed form. Here are some examples to further explain the concept of automatic copyright:

Lyrics: when you write your lyrics on a napkin - you automatically own the copyright to those lyrics. Other people are not allowed to use your lyrics without your permission.

Musical Composition: when you write the musical notation on staff paper (for example), you own the copyright to the composition. Others are not allowed to use this musical composition for their own work without your permission.

Sound Recordings: when you record your song on a CD, you own the copyrights to the recorded performance (this may be the song and/or lyrics). This means others cannot copy the specific recording of the song (this is why it's illegal to "burn" CDs you buy in the stores - because the artist or label owns the sound recording). As a reminder, you need permission to record someone's song if you are using their lyrics or musical composition.

- Copyright Registration - Not Poor Man's Copyright
Owning the copyrights to your music is one thing, but actually being able to prove you are the owner of the work is another. Many people like to use the method of "Poor Man's Copyright", which is mailing yourself a copy of your work through registered mail. This method has been deemed completely useless when it comes to proving ownership because the registered envelop can be tampered with in a number of ways.

As such, the most proven method to protect the copyright of your music is to register your work with a reputable 3rd party. To find registries, you can simply type "protect copyright" into google, yahoo, or msn and a number of them will come up. Do your research and pick a registry that best suits your needs (look at membership fees, renewal fees, and the duration of protection as a starting point).

As a reminder, you do not need to register your work to be protected under copyright law, however, it is an excelled form of protection (and worth the investment) should someone infringe on your work.

Disclaimer:
The above information is meant as a general guide to further your copyright knowledge and does not constitute legal advice. For questions about your specific work, you should consult a copyright lawyer in your country.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Stardom - The Erasure Story

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A synth/pop duo from England, Erasure began in the 1980's and consisted of the introverted songwriter and keyboard player Vince Clarke and the flamboyant singer Andy Bell. After a few false starts, they started to appear regularly in the music charts and sold millions of albums worldwide as well as appearing in sell out tours. Currently on a break, a new album is pencilled in for release in late 2010.

Vincent John Martin (later changed to Clarke) was born in South Woodford, London on 3/7/60. He was always a musical child and studied the Violin and Piano, becoming accomplished at both. On leaving school, there was one career option for young Vince, that of being a musician. His first foray into the world of pop was the short lived band No romance in China, we he had formed with a schoolmate Andy Fletcher. This then evolved into French look, and then Composition of sound. His first taste of success was when Dave Gahan joined as vocalist and Depeche Mode was born, who had great success in the early 80's.

Vince didn't stick around to see much of this success as he as the main songwriter and didn't like the musical direction of the band. He left the band and formed Yazoo with Alison Moyet; they also enjoyed a string of hit singles before splitting in 1983. For the next couple of years Vince toyed with various ensembles and sounds until in 1985, he had a catalogue of songs and needed someone to sing them, so posted an ad in the music paper Melody Maker.

One of the many responses to the ad came from Andrew Ivan Bell, born 25/4/64 in Peterborough. He was a great fan of Clarke's earlier work and the two hit it off immediately and Erasure was born. Their first 3 singles were commercial flops in the UK, although the 3rd one, 'Oh L'amour' sold well in Australia and France. It was there fourth single, 'Sometimes', released in 1986, that established them with the music buying public.

After that the duo went from strength to strength. Their debut album, 'The circus', earned platinum status in the UK and 3 singles from the album all hit the charts; 'Circus', 'Victim of Love' and' It doesn't have to be'. In 1988, Erasure released their 3rd album,' The Innocents'. This entered the charts at #1, stayed in the chart, and returned to the top spot a year later, gaining triple platinum status. It was also their breakthrough in the US, also turning platinum and resulting in 2 hit singles on the billboard chart; 'A little respect' and 'chains of love'.

In the early 1990's Erasure were riding high and could do no wrong in their fans eyes. Sell out tours gave the outrageous and openly gay Andy free reign, with his stage outfits becoming more and more daring and flamboyant. In 1994, they released 'Say Say Say', which was their fifth consecutive album to hit #1 in the album charts. The first single released from the album, 'Always', became their 3rd hit single in the US. It's hard to believe that with all their success, they only ever had one #1 single in the UK, the 1992 release 'Abba-esque', which was four Abba songs fused together.

The 1995 album, simply named 'Erasure' was a marked departure from their distinctive sound, and didn't fare well commercially. They returned to their roots in 1997 with 'Cowboy', but the damage was done and Erasure's star was on the wane. At the end of 2004, Andy announced that he was HIV positive and had been since 1998.

They had a brief return to form in 2005 when the single 'Breathe' reached #4, their first top 5 hit for over a decade. They continued to produce more dance orientated music which, by their own admission, was more for personal satisfaction than anything else. They are still on the break they took on 2005 but word is that they are working on a new album. In a time when so many bands are making a comeback, die hard Erasure fans are hoping their heroes will follow suit.

Guide to Finding Music Online

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Are you frustrated because finding your favorite songs on the net has become
more of a chore than an enjoyable activity? Read this simple guide to
finding music online and your troubles will be out of mind before you
download your next Green Day hit!

MP3s are compressed music files that are one-tenth the size of regular audio
files. As a normal audio file requires about 40 megabytes to download, and
MP3 requires four. Although this is still a substantial number, it is much
more manageable for the average computer. Thus began the MP3 downloading,
sharing and trading craze. There are a variety of options when it comes to
playing your MP3s. Media Player comes with Windows, QuickTime 4 comes with
Macintosh, and Win amp is the industry standard product.

Music can be downloaded from websites or FTP sites. Websites are easier to
use. Songs download automatically when you click on the titles. Finding
good websites to download from is difficult. The sites that used to work
well now dabble in other venues. AlltheWeb.com and MP3.com usually only
contain independent, unknown bands that may be great, but if you're looking
for the stuff you've heard of, you'll be wasting your time. Audiofind now
carries radio stations instead of music files, and Audiogalaxy.com Music

Search requires a subscription.

Good websites to use are LycoMP3 Search,
MP3 Search on Altavista, MP3 Search at Astraweb, and MP3Bot Search Engine.
FTP sites usually require special software. Some free software options
include WS FTP and FTP Explorer. Oth Net (Kermit search) is a clean fast
way to download from FTP sites directly from the browser that works even
better than the software options.

In the wake of the Napster downfall, it has become mostly illegal to
download and share free music files on the web. Musicians are opposed to
the practice, and rightly so, because the free music sharing significantly
affects the commercial success of their CD sales in stores. Downloaders
tend to think musicians are being unfair by revoking the free music files
from the net, but one must remember that selling music is their career. It
is nearly impossible to find full albums on the web.

These days, musicians
will release a couple of new hits onto the net to try to entice the web
surfing crowd to wander into the music store and buy the full album.
Remember, if all else fails and you MUST have the MP3 of a song, there are
thousands of sites to which you can subscribe and pay for the downloads.

New bands are always willing to put their music out on the Internet in hopes
of getting heard, so free downloads are limitless if you are willing to lend
your ear to some new tunes.

Five 1990s One Hit Wonders

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The 1990s were a great decade for music. If you lived through the decade, you can probably remember the many great songs you heard. Whether you were in the car, listening to the radio at home, or watching MTV, there's a good chance that you'll remember some of these songs. The bands, on the other hand, may be a little less memorable as they were really only well known for their one hit song. Let's look at a few one hit wonders from the 1990s.

5. Spacehog. You may remember their song "In the Meantime". A great space rock type song, this alternative group faded into obscurity shortly thereafter.

4. Seven Mary Three. Another alternative rock group, this band sounded like it was destined for greatness after the success of its hit song "Cumbersome". Interestingly enough, none of the rest of their music ever made it big.

3. Chumbawumba. "I get knocked down, and I get up again"...I'm sure you know this chorus just as well as anyone else did back then, but this band really never had another hit song in the United States.

2. Jimmy Ray. Do you remember this song? "Are you Jimmy Ray? Who wants to know?" was the chorus, and the music video was just as big. No one knows Jimmy Ray anymore though.

1. Deep Blue Something. How about that song Breakfast at Tiffany's? In the mid 1990s, it was all the rage. The band never came out with another hit song, and they're the quintessential one hit wonder of the 1990s.

I've got one word to describe this one, Wow!

This is one of the greatest greatest hits CD's I've had the pleasure of reviewing.

Benson has been in the music game for so long I have to admit I had forgotten about some of these outstanding tunes. It's really a testament to the fact that he has been a true hit maker for over 30 years now. The CD is packed with 19, I say again nineteen!, of Benson's chart topping hits from his very long and amazingly outstanding career.

It begins with one of Benson's best songs of all, This Masquerade and just rolls right through 18 more of what a lot of people will agree are some of the greatest songs we as music fans have heard over the last 30 years.

Benson, with his signature smooth guitar playing, showing why he his now considered one of the greatest artists of our time.

Contributors on the project includes an amazing line up of musicians with whom Benson has collaborated over the years. Industry heavy hitters like Michael Boddicker, Earl Klugh, Phil Upchurch, Marcus Miller, Lee Ritenour and Narada Michael Walden just to name a few, and the list actually goes on and on and on.

Benson's The Greatest Hits Of All is simply an outstanding collection. If you love music this is not a CD you SHOULD get. It's one you NEED.

Rock Music

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Rock music features vocals, electric guitars, a powerful backbeat, and the occasional saxophone. A key element is Rock n Roll, and the terms are used interchangeably. "Rock n Roll" is a nautical expression and refers to the motions of a ship. It entered black spiritual music in 1916; "Rocking" was used by African Americans to describe the bliss they experienced at religious events and their accompanying music. Simultaneously, black secular musicians used the term for dancing or sex.

Wynonie Harris' 'Good Rocking Tonight' started the "rock" fad in 1947, though people became aware of it only in 1954, owing to tracks like 'Shake, Rattle, and Roll' and 'Rock Around The Clock'. In the mid-50's, when Rock n Roll scaled popularity charts, record companies began promoting singers. RCA backed Elvis Presley - the first superstar rock musician, Decca backed Bill Haley and Buddy Holly, while Capitol promoted Gene Vincent. Thus, R&B artists faded into oblivion.

In 1955, 'Rock Around the Clock' was the biggest hit in rock history. Bill Haley & His Comets toured Europe and Britain was quick to adopt rock. Cliff Richard scored the first ""British Rock"" hit with 'Move It'. Subsequently, The Beatles rose in popularity and launched a US tour with a rapturous response, dubbed 'Beatlemania'. In their wake other British bands headed to the US, notably Rolling Stones. This spawned crude imitators in the US, dubbed as ""Garage Rock"". In late 1950s, there was an antagonism towards electric instruments and revival of traditional music, leading to the birth of ""Folk Rock"".

Rock as a socially-unifying force was seen in rock festivals of the late '60s, the most famous of which was Woodstock - a three-day arts and music festival. It represented the culture of the 1960s and the "Hippie Era". Many famous musicians appeared during the rock festival, which was captured in the movie, 'Woodstock'.

OPM Stands For Original Filipino Music

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Traditional Filipino Music is generally a confluence of Western styles and our own ethnic music. In modern times, however, Filipino music is similar to modern music that is heard in any part of the world.

Original musical works by Filipino artists is usually referred to as "Original Pilipino Music" or OPM. Many song and music artists of the Philippines usually use Tagalog and English for the lyrics of their songs. Thus, if you listen to any local FM radio station, it would not be a surprise to hear OPM songs with English lyrics and titles.

One of the best contemporary artists that have made a lot of Filipino music is Mr. Ryan Cayabyab. Ryan is a professor of the University of the Philippines conservatory if music and is currently the head and conductor of the San Miguel Philharmonic orchestra.

Ryan has been an internationally acclaimed musical artist and has received numerous awards on the International level. His most popular composition is "Kay ganda ng ating musika" which literally means "How beautiful is our music", which he composed during the first Metropop song festival in the early 80s. The Metropop song festival was then the most prestigious avenue for original competitions. Ryan still continuous to produce albums with his Orchestra. He also arranges for many singers and song writers.

If you want to hear ethnic Filipino music, you just have to hear the music of Joey Ayala. Joey Ayala makes use of indigenous instruments for his music. One characteristic of Joey Ayala's music is that you hear the sound of nature as accompaniment for his songs, like a stream that is flowing or birds chirping. Nowadays however, Joey Ayala's songs are not played on FM radio. Simply go to any CD music store on any mall if you want to grab an album of Joey Ayala.

Like in any part of the world, FM stations usually play pop music so it is unlikely that you hear ethnic music when you tune in to FM stations. If you are more of the rocker type of musician or listener, all you have to do is tune in to the "Alternative music" FM stations. The most popular of these FM rock stations is the Manila-based FM station NU 107.1.

In the Philippine, the world "Alternative music" refers to the heavy metal, or rock music done by Filipino artists. This type of wave in Filipino music started during the early 90's.

Some of most popular alternative music bands are "Eraserheads", "Parokya ni Edgar" and "Wolfgang". Other popular alternative bands are "MYMP", "Hale", and "Orange and Lemons". Popular female alternative song artists are Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almadi. These two ladies have very good voices that sound like Alanis Morisette (if you still remember this artist from the mid 90's).

The Best of 80s Hair Metal Bands

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Who could forget the metal bands from the 80s and early 90s with that big hair? The hair style alone made a stand out fashion statement. The music was big, flashy, and glamorous just like the hair of the band members. This particular type of heavy metal was very popular in California near the Los Angeles and Sunset Strip areas. The music is characterized by long solo guitar rifts also called shred guitar and hard rock with a mix of pop.

Hair metals bands not only made great music, they made an impact on our culture by introducing a new way of life. Band members weren't happy with sitting around, hanging out, and producing hits. They had to party as if tomorrow would never come and dress to the nines with big teased hair, makeup, and over accessorizing. Their late night parties were infamous, and you could also read about a band member creating some scandal in a tabloid magazine.

If you aren't quite sure what bands are classified as hair metal bands, here is a small list that will explain or spark some memories from "the good old days."

Guns N' Roses consisted of band members Axl Rose, Dizzy Reed, Tommy Stinson, Chris Pitman, Richard Fortus, Ron Thal, Frank Ferrer, and DJ Ashba. Some of their hits include songs such as: Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine, and Paradise City.

David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Alex Van Halen make up the band known as Van Halen which originated out of Pasadena, California. You could party all night like the rock stars listening to their hits songs like: Dance the Night Away, Can't Stop Loving You, and Runnin' With the Devil.

Another band originating out of Los Angeles in the 80s was Quiet Riot. They have gone through many band members, but the original formation was Kevin DuBrow, Randy Rhoads, Kelly Garni, and Drew Forsyth. They are best known for their hit Cum On Feel the Noise. Other hits by Quiet Riot include: Metal Health, Party All Night, and Callin' the Shots.

Motley Crue is the quintessential 80s hair metal band. They partied harder than any other band and were always in some type of trouble. The band consisted of members Nikki Sox, Mick Mars, Vince Neil, and Tommy Lee. Too Fast for Love, Girls Girls Girls, and Dr. Feelgood were all hit songs by the band.

All of the bands listed above have a few things in common, and the most important being that they are metal hair bands. All the bands partied hard, had numerous tattoos, teased their hair to make it big, had run ins with the law, and originated from California. Some other famous 80s hair metal bands are: Savatage, Twisted Sister, Cinderella, Slaughter, Poison, Whitesnake, and Kiss.

You don't have to time travel back to the 80s to hear some of your favorite songs. You can find Internet Radio websites that have 80s channels that will play some of the hits from these great bands listed.

Music Review of a Hundred Million Suns by Snow Patrol

Image : http://www.flickr.com

"Snow Patrol" are a five-piece Irish/Scottish indie/alternative rock band from Dundee. Snow Patrol were formed way back in 1994 and currently the band consists of Gary Lightbody (Vocals and Guitar), Nathan Connolly (Guitar and Backing Vocals), Paul Wilson (Bass), Jonny Quinn (Drums) and Tom Simpson (Keyboards). Snow Patrol were originally known as in indie rock band but have moved to a more alternative rock and power pop sound.

A Hundred Million Suns opens with "If There's A Rocket Tie Me To It". It starts off in the distance with the help of synthesizers and gradually sounds louder and gets into the track when the correct momentum hits on. When the guitar comes on, it sounds really good before Gary comes on with his trademark husky yet soft vocals. As Gary sings, the background music carries on and hit a high when Gary goes, "A fire a fire, you can only take what you can carry... A pulse your pulse, it's the only thing I can remember..." Snow Patrol also gear up the tempo in this part. The remaining 1 minute, If There's A Rocket Tie Me To It just gets louder and Snow Patrol add some background howls as Gary sings to the end... Great appetizer here...

"Crack The Shutters" begins with delicate piano-playing. Gary's voice just works so fine with the piano in the verse. In the chorus, the drums just pound on and Gary goes, "Crack the shutters open wide, i want to bathe you in the light of day... And just watch you as the rays, tangle around your face and body..." The guitar also joins in here and the whole track opens to a new tempo and it sounds more lively. It's not a fast track overall, but it will work on anybody, including you. Believe me.

Once "Take Back The City" starts, the guitar just makes me think that this track could be big. I was instantly connected to Take Back The City. The guitar of Snow Patrol just knows how to blend in so well into this track. With the style they're playing, Take Back The City should have sounded loud and fierce. But Snow Patrol know what we like about them, and they did it again with this track. They never fail to rock and at the same time, remain as soft and lovely as ever. In the chorus where Gary goes, "It's a mess, it's a start, it's a flawed work of art, your city, your call...", you would be treated with a repetition of rocking guitar riffs that complement its way to Gary's vocals. Snow Patrol are having a rocking good time with this track, i can definitely feel it.

"Lifeboats" has some steady guitars going on in the beginning. As the guitar is playing, Gary just comes in and starts singing with his lovely husky voice. No doubt, i like the rhythm of Lifeboats here. Very good stuff! The music just joined by a bass when it comes to certain point that we find Gary goes, "Flashed up in my wildest dreams, like red blood streams, stretch up like vast skies... The veins of you, the veins of me, like gold forest trees... Pushing through and on and in..." Shortly after that, i like the violin-like sound that comes on and off as Gary sings on. If just feels so great listening to it. Lifeboats is one of the tracks that will impress after a few listens. It's slow and catchy in a way that might give you a wake up call and get you to hit the replay button when the song is nearing the end. And what an ending as well!

"The Golden Floor" has some hand claps going on in the beginning as the guitar plays on in the background. Gary just enters with his vocals not long after The Golden Floor has started. Throughout this track, the hand claps give an impression that they're replacing the drums even though the drums are being played on this track, but can hardly be heard as the hand claps overwhelmed it by miles. Snow Patrol are very consistent in The Golden Floor, some may find it dull, and some might like it. Still you just have to try The Golden Floor in order to find out.

"Please Just Take These Photos from My Hands" brings the tempo back again. The non-stop guitar strumming seem to be the core element that keeps this song going on as Gary just sings his usual stuffs. In the chorus, the guitar takes on a different riff with high tweak as Gary let it out with, "When all this actual life played out? Where the hell on Earth was I? I rack my brains but it won't come..." It seems that Snow Patrol already got their trademark guitar sound as i always catch them playing in the same guitar style in almost every fast track. As the song is ending, Gary just sings in repetition, "Please just take these photos from my hands..." One of those tracks that reminds me of "Spitting Games" from the album Final Straw.

"Set Down Your Glass" is a track that brings Snow Patrol from a fast tempo track to a slower tempo track. There are not many instruments being used in Set Down Your Glass, the most obvious sounds are the guitar's and the vocals of Gary Lightbody. He just possesses the voice of a beautiful ballad and love song singer. I bet Gary would also do incredibly fine if this song were an acapella version. Set Down Your Glass just shows his vocals strength here. Pretty lovely!

"The Planets Bend Between Us" to me is a beautiful love song ballad. And the lyrics itself contain the album title, "A hundred million suns..." Gary makes an impact with his voice here in the vocals, "I will race you to the waterside, and from the edge of Ireland shout out loud, so they could hear it in America, it's all for you..." The part where Gary sings, "It's all for you..." is the best part of all. I just love the way Gary extend his vocals on the word, "You..." Beautiful and love ballad over here, shows Snow Patrol are capable of writing such meaningful and thought-provoking song that manages to capture every person's heart. This song will melt you, pamper you and the best of all, touch you.

"Engines" has some howls going on in the beginning before joined by high-pitching guitar riff. After each phrase of singing by Gary, the high pitch guitar riff can be heard in a way that's almost similar to a dessert after a sumptuous main course. In the chorus, a second guitar can be heard and it possesses fairy tale-like element as it plays on in the chorus along side with Gary's vocals. One more thing that's worth mentioning is the cleverly written lyrics, "You say you love me like the silence of the turning earth, you say you love me like the endless roar of modern of life, you say you love me like the laughter and the kissed back tears, you say you love me like the past the now the coming years..." No other word can describe this lyrics except beautiful, unless you can find a better word.

"Disaster Button" has a fast-paced little guitar in the opening. It sounds like it's getting up the stairs in small steps. Gary just sings as if he were speaking. When it reaches the right momentum, the whole track seems to be taking off in a loud and fast mode and still, Gary just sings on without using much strength, "Throw forward to later, you look light on your feet, when you whirled in the room, i was nailed to my seat..." The guitars of Snow Patrol seems to be enjoying their part by playing it loud most of the time on Disaster Button. Instead of Disaster Button, this song should be called "Explosion Button" due to its loudness and energy in this track.

"The Lightning Strike" ends A Hundred Million Suns with a track that contains three different tracks and it's over 16 minutes long all together. First track is called "What If This Storm Ends?". It starts with some steady piano playing for a while before Gary enters with this vocals. As he sings, the music seems to get enriched with instruments like horn and trombone. It doesn't really have a chorus, just a line of words where Gary sings through. Not a bad first track of a three-track song. Entering the second track, it's called "Sunlight Through the Flags". As it continues from "What If This Storm Ends?", it has a faster-paced piano in the beginning. The deal here is when it comes to a point where the guitar just comes in with a slow looping guitar riff in the background as Gary goes, "Worry not everything is sound, this is the safest place you've found, the only noise beating out is ours, lacing our tea from honey jars..." In the end, this track just ends with the piano it first played in the beginning. Come to the third track of "The Lightning Strike", "Daybreak" leverages on synthesizers for its opening. As Gary enters the verse here, each phrase of the verse is sung with an extending and pulling vocals.

The music suddenly takes a different turn with the bass coming in with a more obvious sound after the first verse. As it gets further into this track, Snow Patrol just focus more on the music and the most obvious sound is the guitar where again it can be heard playing in a way that Snow Patrol are always known for. A very ambitious ending by Snow Patrol!

Justin Bieber Hits Puberty - Reasons Why it Won't Jeopardize His Career

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Many people wonder if Justin Bieber's career will be ruined when he hits puberty because his voice will start cracking. I will be arguing that this will not be the case under two premises:

How he became famous in the first place.
Proof that his voice is already getting deeper, but is gaining more fame.

How he Became Famous in the First Place
Justin Bieber started off posting videos of himself singing covers on YouTube, and was accidentally discovered by Scooter Braun, a big shot in the music industry. Bieber was then introduced to Usher who signed him, but it was not without competition; Justin Timberlake was interested in signing him as well. The nature of how Justin Bieber was discovered is evidence that it was based purely on talent and looks, not on connections (like many other artists).

Furthermore, these people (Braun, Usher, Timberlake) are experts in the music industry, and they are not going to invest time, money and effort into Justin Bieber if he is not going to be a long term investment with extraordinary profits. You can count of them for already taking into account what will happen to him when he grows up.

Proof that his voice is getting deeper, but is gaining more fame.
Please see below for a YouTube video on evidence that Bieber's voice has already gotten deeper.

Justin Bieber is sixteen years old right now, and it is very apparent that he has already hit puberty. But still, his shows continue to sell out, more people are following him on Twitter, and one of his music videos has the top views on YouTube.

If you want more evidence of "Bieber Fever" then have this in mind: Just a week ago there was a Bieber Parade in Denmark, organized by fans, where a plethora of girls took over the streets singing his songs with customized clothing and posters. Also, the producers of CSI has already asked him to come back on the show for a second episode while his first episode hasn't even aired yet. I can go on with indicators that Justin Bieber's fame is only increasing, and not slowing down.

I hope that now you are a little bit more enlightened, and will have more value to add to conversations when topics like this emerges among your friends.

Pop Music

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Pop music is a genre of popular music distinguished from classical or art music and from folk music . The term indicates specific stylistic traits, but the genre also includes artists working in many styles such as rock, hip hop, rhythm and blues (R&B), and country, making it a flexible category. The expression "pop music" may also be used to refer to particular subgenres (within the pop music genre) that are in some cases referred to as soft rock and pop/rock.

Characteristics as a subgenre
Pop "is designed to appeal to everyone" and "doesn't come from any particular place or mark off any particular taste." In musical terms, it is essentially "conservative" in that it attempts to resonate with a large segment of its target demographic rather than pushing artistic boundaries. It is "provided from on high (by record companies, radio programmers and concert promoters) rather than being made from below..." (Frith 2001, p.95-96). But over time, pop has gone from "popular in general" to "a genre" described as sounding musically similar to rap, but with singing. This is due to radio stations labeling themselves as "pop stations" taking heavy preference over certain sounds, tossing other popular bands who don't fit into the sound or other categories like rock into the "alternative" label.

Often used to describe the current popular genres of music of any given time, the term "pop" cannot be used describe any one particular style.

History of pop music

1930s and 1940s
Styles influencing the later development of pop include the Blues (Chicago), and Country (Tennessee)

1950s
Early Pop music artists include Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, and Peggy Lee, but other artists like Bill Haley and his Comets, Fats Domino and Elvis Presley become popular with the younger generation.

1960s
The decade starts out with such Teen Idols such as, Johnny Tillotson, Bobby Vee, Brian Hyland, Tommy Roe, Gene Pitney, and Frankie Avalon. It explodes midway with Carole King, Neil Diamond, Burt Bacharach, Aretha Franklin, Isley Brothers, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkel. It can be said that The Beatles led the British Invasion in this decade.

1970s
A proliferation of new sounds from the disco of the BeeGees, the piano sounds of Billy Joel and Elton John, the country of the Eagles, the rock-influenced pop of artists like Rod Stewart, Steely Dan, and Fleetwood Mac. ABBA was a swedish band who grew to fame after winning Eurovision Song Contest and starting a whole new revolution of pop music.
1980s
Notable highlights for pop music in the 1980s are Michael Jackson's second Epic label release, Thriller, which went on to become the best-selling album of all time, and Madonna albums "Like a Virgin", "True Blue", "Like a Prayer" . Michael Jackson was sometimes referred to as "The King of Pop" and Madonna was named "The Queen of Pop". Other artists included Michael Bolton, Prince, Janet Jackson, Duran Duran, The Police, ABBA, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Kylie Minogue and Culture Club.

1990s and 21st century
The 1990s and 21st century were marked by a resurgence of boy band and girl group trends. From the UK came the likes of Take That, Blue, the Spice Girls, a highly successful formula. Irish boy bands of the time include Boyzone and Westlife. The US had New Edition, New Kids On The Block followed by the Backstreet Boys, Hanson, girl trio Destiny's Child and then 'N Sync and Pop Princesses Willa Ford, Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera. Canadian Avril Lavigne became popular with her album Let Go. Australia had Boys from Oz. 1999 saw the rise of the Latin explosion with Ricky Martin at the forefront with his worldwide smash hit "Livin' La Vida Loca". Other latin artists to follow were Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and Marc Anthony. In 2002, Justin Timberlake had critical and commercial acclaim with his "Justified" album, emerging as the new "Prince of Pop", Jesse McCartney has emerged from Dream Street as a high-rating singer with songs like She's No You, Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff has become popular in the 2000s. Artists like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Kylie Minogue, Celine Dion, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and Madonna have also been highly successful. Reality television shows, such as American Idol, begin producing multi-platinum artists like Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken. British pop rock groups such as McFly emerge.

Sound and themes
Pop music, in whatever musical influence form it derives from, may be produced by a more basic songwriting approach and arrangement. The emphasis is often on a simpler melody, which makes the songs more memorable, and may use stripped-down rhythms. The combination of the melody and the rhythm allows for harmony to be a driving force of the song. Themes range from personal songs to vivacious party jams. However, the most common theme deals with the wide range of emotions which stem from physical or emotional love.

Music videos and live performances are often used for exposure in the media, and artists may have extravagant stage shows and use choreographed dancing. Many pop tunes are used in both Dance clubs and Sport clubs.

Pop Music Came From Rock And Roll

Image : http://www.flickr.com

By it's very definition Pop (short for popular) is the most POPULAR music genre. The fragmentation of popular music into discrete niches has meant that fewer performers are able to transcend their specific genres to attain a kind of cultural consensus that seemed possible in the past. Yet Shumway's tired lament reveals less about why this change has occurred than it does about the stranglehold that baby boomers continue to have over received knowledge about the history of modern popular music.

Rock

Rock music is one of the leading genres of popular music and underground music in contemporary Japan. Rock and Hip Hop are more closely related than you might think, they both evolved from R&B (Rhythm & Blues). A poet who later came to rock 'n' roll, she never shed the identify of a poet who does rock 'n' roll, an artist who explicitly combines poetry and rock 'n' roll. Mark's Place in early 1971, to opening as a poet for Teenage Lust and other rock bands in the heyday of the Mercer Art Center (1972), to forming a performance duo with guitarist Lenny Kaye (1973), the producer of the punk-retro album Nuggets, and finally with him to forming a rock band, the Patti Smith Group (1974). Smith was said to have brought "rock 'n' roll rhythms to poetry," thereby having "reversed the process" initiated by Bob Dylan, who gets "credit for introducing poetry to rock 'n' roll. More significantly, they brought in a "following drawn from the art fringes," an "art-rock crowd," who quickly "cemented" a permanent relationship with the bedraggled "rock & roll crowd" already ensconced at CBGB's.

Pop

Pop music is shorter way of writing popular music. Pop music came from the Rock and Roll movement of the early 1950s, when record companies recorded songs that they thought that Teenagers would like. Pop music usually uses musical styles from the other types of music that are popular at the time. " On the pop side, "minimalism" implied simplicity and adherence without ornamentation to a basic universal rock framework, which in turn implied accessibility, familiarity, and eminent commerciability. And their exhibition of an "earnest dumbness of an adolescent pop" more redolent of a bygone era, before an audience of artists and other sophisticates, could only take on the allure of satire and irony. " Their unabashed artiness was a virtue rather than a vice for Rockwell, who later became a chief proponent of art/pop fusion.

Pop music is shorter way of writing popular music. Various popular music genres from around the world will be studied through listening, reading and written assignments, with an emphasis on class discussion. The Popular Music Project is a one-stop home for the interdisciplinary study and analysis of popular music. Containing an impressive and comprehensive range of global case studies Soundtracks takes an innovative approach to the complex and changing relationships between music and space to provide a genuine global assessment of the power and pleasure of popular music in its many forms.

80's Hits and Why I Can't Let Them Go

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Ahhh, the greatest decade of them all, the 80's. Remember all the great music, movies, and all things associated with the 80's? Come with me here for a few moments and let's take a stroll down the 80's memory lane. Ronald Reagan was our President, and nobody messed with the U.S.!! M.T.V. had just entered our living rooms, and the 80's music explosion took off like the space shuttle. Does anyone remember the very first video ever shown on M.T.V.? It was from a band named the Buggles, and the song was Video Killed the Radio Star. In fact, M.T.V. only had around 50 videos to air at the time, and the music world didn't think this type of entertainment would actually take off. How little did they know then! But slowly and surely, these little music videos started growing, and the rest they say is history.

I really believe that M.T.V. launched a thousand musical careers if not more. Everything from one hit wonders to 80's rock mega-stars like Van Halen and Def Leppard. Even artist and bands already established got a boost from this little music television station. I for one had no idea what these people actually looked like. I heard them on the radio, but didn't have a clue as to what their appearance was. I even remember that some of the 80's music I so dearly enjoyed, was actually sung by a high voice man, and not the woman I had thought! Come on, some of you agree with me don't you? Because of this exposure, I really got to know the people, the bands, and albums that all of these great 80's hits came from. Just to name a few of the videos and 80's hits I remember are Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Whitesnake's Here I go Again, the Go-Go's We Got the Beat, and how could we ever forget the string of 80's music hits from Kenny Loggins.

In fact, Kenny Loggins provided the music to quite a few 80's music soundtracks. Movies such as Caddy Shack, Footloose, and his ever popular, Top Gun. Top Gun also provided some great 80's hits from bands such as Berlin, Cheap Trick, and Miami Sound Machine. Some of the other 80's movie soundtracks that rate high with me are Visionquest, Maximum Overdrive, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and the ever popular 80's hit, Dirty Dancing. Nobody puts Baby in the corner!! Great movies, and incredible soundtracks as well. What were you doing and where were you when you first saw the 80's classic Purple Rain? What kind of a car were you driving? Were you even driving? If you are like me, you can hear an old 80's hit, see an 80's music video, and can instantly be swept back away to a simpler time. Thankfully, these hits are alive and well on the internet, and classic rock video channels.

So, there you have it. One persons reflection on the decade I will ever remember as the greatest decade there ever was. Thanks for sharing this memory with me.

The Beat of the Beatles Goes On

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Beatles, a band whose inception occurred almost 50 years ago, are still relevant today. Starting out in Liverpool, England, 1960, with members Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Pete Best and George Harrison, the band created a compelling sound with incomparably youthful appeal. As their fame caught fire, Best was replaced by drummer Ringo Starr and the rest, as they say, is history.

The bright, pop tunes, sweet, simple lyrics and engaging harmonies that defined that band's first forays into the limelight, with the boys sporting sleek bob hairdos and slim, matching suits, gave way to harder rock riffs, deeper, more introspective prose and the hippy attire, and hairstyles, of the times. Topic matter in their songs transcended from puppy love and girls to gurus, yogis and psychedelia. Their music evolved, exploring various genres and their lives shifted and altered, eventually drifting apart. Each of the internationally famous band members carried on to find their own individual avenues of success in the years following the band's 1970 break up.

Paul McCartney (b. June 18, 1942) proved to be the most successful businessman of the lot, though after the tragic passing of his wife and partner, Linda Eastman McCartney, some suggest the terrific sense he so consistently displayed in professional matters wasn't always well exercised in his personal realm. Ringo Starr (a.k.a. Richard Starkey, b. July 7, 1940) has probably been the least heard of in post-Beatles years, although he too has achieved a rather respectable degree of continued accomplishment. The late George Harrison (February 25, 1943 - November 29, 2001) was exceptionally prolific with his music and created hit after hit, both as a solo artist and also in wonderful collaborations with friends who proved as fantastically talented as Harrison himself. With Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, Harrison's Traveling Wilburys put out a charming handful of late 80's hits. John Lennon (1940 - 1980) was never far from the public eye, as he and spouse Yoko Ono seemed always to be engaging in some sort of news-worthy act or protest up until the time a crazed gunman ended the famed Beatles' life, barely two months after his 40th birthday.

Today, oh so many years later, we still find modern musicians emulating the Beatles' style. Current groups strive to match the magical quality of the band's early harmonies. To site just one recent example, Melbourne, Australia's group 'Jet' has been hitting the airwaves since 2003 with a sound that is more often than not distinctly Beatle-esque. Fashions have even turned full circle (at least once, maybe twice) with youngsters again sporting the skinny, leg-hugging trousers that were popular back in the Beatles' earliest days.

Dare we guess that, no matter how many decades may pass, the Beatles' legacy will carry on long after the remaining band members have passed from this earth, well after the last of the screaming girls who once wept while watching them in concert has left our world. Paul, George, Ringo and John will live on in the memories of their music and the bands who continue to find inspiration in the indelible notes the Beatles have left to us.

Anti-Social Mobiles

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Traveling with any type of public transportation vehicle today in a metropolitan city, one could easily assert that the common mobile use has embraced different societies and penetrated the communication practices of people of all ages. Answering a sleek mobile phone that rings, by loudly reproducing a lesser quality version of the latest music hit, while ridding a packed bus or a crowded train carriage, is considered to be common practice. At the same time, playing games with your cell phone, or calling family or friends to let them know where you are and what you will be doing next, needs no justification as to whether it might be viewed as a token of responsibility or a mechanical act of boredom. Given the fact that mobile telephony has took by storm various publics in almost every continent, finding the fine line between living a mobile-saturated life and using your mobile as a convenience tool has become the subject of colorful debates.

According to researchers, citizens of the US, Finland, Japan, Germany, Italy and the UK have become the pioneers in exploring different technological developments in relation to their everyday tasks. Surfing through the Internet over a mobile phone while ridding the metro, or answering phone calls and sending e-mails while ordering the morning's coffee, are examples of scenes almost everyone has witnessed at some point or another. However, this new type of social network, mastered by the latest mobile technologies, does not necessarily bring people together according to some critics. People reach for their cell phones in an effort to connect with others, but the mere notion of being isolated from the rest of the world in order to reach someone on the other end of a telephone line, with whom you do not necessarily interact, contradicts the whole idea of "closeness" or "contact." But numbers speak otherwise, as the mobile phone ownership has tremendously increased over the last two decades.

Unfortunately, as Kofi Annan's 2000 speech to the Australian Press Club pointed out, "half of the world's population has never made of received a phone call." Digital divide, the technological gap the exists between the developed and developing countries of the world, has become the central point for sociologists, developers and scientists, who now speak of a digitally misplaced 50 percent that drifts further and further away from the rest of the technology-savvy half.

But, even in the midst of the heavy mobile telephony users, isolation and annoyance have recently come to destroy what some would like to translate as a new type of group dynamic. The telecom industry, powered by the new technologies that emerge, targets contemporary mobile phone customers to form an extremely technology dependent crowd. Smaller in size, carrying cameras and having wireless internet capabilities, today's mobile phones are packed with useful or totally useless features. Only the future will determine which of those can in fact bring people together or further push forward the anti-social factor.

The Biggest 1990s One Hit Wonder Bands

Image : http://www.flickr.com

People loved and still love 80's music but what about the 90's? The 90's were full of forgotten treasures that set the stage for future acts. Bands such as Green Day, Radiohead and Pearl Jam made it big back then and are still huge today.

However, there were also those bands that seemed to suddenly form, write a hit of a song, become a huge success and then fade out just as quick as they had come on the scene.

These are formally known as one hit wonders and no one can ever remember the bands names only the title of the hit songs, for obvious reasons.

Take the song Breakfast At Tiffany's for my first example. When this song emerged, the crowds went wild for it but as with many other one hit wonders, no one can recall the name of the band, can you?

You probably wouldn't guess it after ten tries, it was Deep Blue Something, the exemplary one hit wonder of the 90's.

Try another one, "The Way" which was a hit during the late 90's and loved by many. This one actually still gets played even today but the band never managed to make another song as good at that one.

The Rembrandts, they are my third temporary sensation to make the list. Their hit song is played and listened to every day and many people wouldn't even be able to put the name of the band to the hit song.

I'll Be There For You, ring any bells? It was such a loved song in its time that it became the theme song for the TV show Friends, Oh now you remember! And as with all the rest, The Rembrandts faded away into obscurity.

But the questions is, who has helped produced the one hit sensations list for the 2000's? That one is coming soon.

All Time Biggest 80's Music Hits and Why We Love Them So

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The greatest decade of them all, the 80's!! Once again, here we are at the start of another memory lane. Travel with me once more as I recall some of the biggest music hits from the big 80's!! The hair was big, the music loud, and the hits never seem to end. Rock, pop, country, whatever the style, there is a certain favorite song for everyone. I find it amusing that the more commercials I see, the more I hear 80's classic hit songs. Just goes to show the longevity of this great music and of this great era!

So let's get this gig started shall we? Let's start with favorite pop hits. Everyone from Abba's Dancing Queen, to Whitney Houston's How Will I Know. Madonna's Papa don't Preach, to New Kids on the Block's The Right Stuff. Quirky little gems to say the least. But somehow, they have a permanent spot in my memory. I think I can even still do the N.K.O.T.B. dance!! What about the ever popular band Genesis and all the great 80's hits they had? Land of Confusion, No Reply at All, That's All, just to name a few. Then you can't mention the band Genesis without saying something about the ever popular, Phil Collins. Probably his biggest 80's hit was In The Air Tonight. Does anyone else do the air drum solo near the end of the song like I do? Please, please, please, let there be someone else that does it!! I've almost wrecked cars trying to get it out!! But, hey, back to the subject here. Who can remember The Police and their stream of hits? Don't Stand so Close To Me, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, Every Breath You Take are just a very few of 80's hits from this great band. Not to mention Sting and his solo career. Do you remember the mega hit from Dire Straits called Money for Nothing? Guess who was singing "I want my M.T.V." in the beginning? You guessed it, Sting. There was a few big artists who kinda sorta crossed lines if you will in the 80's. Eddie Van Halen crossed over and played guitar for Micheal Jackson on his great hit, Beat It, and then Micheal did background vocals for Rockwell and his hit Somebody's Watching Me. Diversity is the name of the game here, with everyone in play.

Next, let's move over to the harder side of 80's rock. There was plenty to be had in this arena wasn't there? Everyone from Poison, to the thunder from down under, AC/DC. Who can't forget the power ballads of the 80's? I believe the biggest power ballad of all time has to be from Poison and Every Rose Has It's Thorn. Stadium rock was alive and well with mega bands like Cinderella and their 80's hit Save Me. Did anyone catch the Monsters of Rock concert from the 80's? If you did, you saw mega stars like Van Halen, Scorpions, and Metallica. It seemed as though the hits that were coming out were bigger and louder than anything else everyone has ever seen. One of the biggest stage presences ever was from the band Def Leppard and their In The Round, In Your Face tour. Talk about something new!! For those not familiar with this kind of concert, the band was in the middle of the concert hall, and the crowd was seated around the band a full 360 degrees. Not that anyone was seated mind you!! This was from their mega album Hysteria. The hits go on and on.

So there you have a few of the greatest 80's rock and pop hits. Stay tuned as there will surely be more to follow. Thanks much for sharing your time with me. Rock On!!!

Learning the Beauty of Music Composition

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Basically, it is a really good feeling to compose music. I had a couple of songs I have composed myself and believe me, the happiness is there. I could not contain the satisfaction I feel whenever I am playing those songs that have been the product of inspiration and effort to have. It is fairly easy to compose songs, but incorporating soul into the song is harder. You need pretty strong words to use and give more meaning to it than be just literal. I find songs with lyrics that let you picture out the whole story behind it while I kind of despise songs that do not have any meaning to it at all.

So here let me share you how I go about composing my own music.

Whenever inspiration hits me, I usually get the instrument for me to be able to write the lyrics and the tune which in my case have always been the guitar. I tried learning piano but I did not really master the instrument because I find the notes very complicated. So that is it, the first thing that you should do is to get your instrument up when you find something really motivating for you to compose a song.

Usually, the lyrics I use in my songs are mostly scribbles or words that pop up in my mind or phrase that I hear people say. I usually have a small notebook or scratch paper and pen with me wherever I go because I literally do not know when or how or where the words will pop up. During times like this, you need to be aware and very conscious of the things that suddenly come into your mind whether they are memories, experience or just random things. It does not really matter. You just write down anything that comes into your mind and that is all.

Once you have settled into something that is worth pursuing for, define the goal clearly and set up a time deadline for you to finish that song to keep you going. It is usually better for me to start composing whenever I am inspired by someone or if I am on the right emotion. You can never do anything good unless you take part of yourself into what you do. It does not happen often so you better be ready anytime. If you are not ready especially when inspiration strikes you, I guess that would be another part of the story.

I have experienced many dead ends when I compose a song or perhaps not really a dead end but a sudden mental block where you seem to lose all inspiration or even reason of why you were composing the song. I find this rather annoying because it is essentially an anti-climax and I hate it when I am being left hanging on thin air. All I know is that I really try hard to remember the feeling I had before I started writing the song.

How to Write Country Music Lyrics

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you've ever sat, tapping your feet to the distinctive sounds of Country Music, marveling at the beat, the guitar chords and above all else - the lyrics, then maybe you've sat there and thought, "I could write better lyrics than that," or "how hard can it be to write a song?"

Surprisingly you don't have to be a creative genius to write a truly heartfelt Country song. Country is all about the journey, every song tells a deeply personal and more often than not, extraordinarily sad story, so pick up a pencil, and think of the "story of your life" the one story that always makes you cry, the worst time in your life, tap into your inner pain.
What can you write about?

If it hurts, it will work well as a Country Song, if it's painful to discuss, then it's perfect, here are some ideas:

* Lost Love
* Death
* Unrequited Love
* Drugs and Addiction
* Alcoholism
* Life Lessons
* Depression
* Prison
* Cowboys

What if you have no pain?

If you are lucky enough not to have a specific sad or painful time in your life, just grasp onto someone else's pain, here are some ideas to help to get your creative juices flowing:

* Listen to some country music, get your head in the right mood
* Watch a very sad movie
* Watch the news
* Imagine losing someone close to your (warning, could keep you depressed for a while)
* Volunteer for a day at a hospice or a cancer ward
* Read a sad poem

If all else fails, just start writing and see where it takes you.

Do you have to plan your lyrics?

The best Country Songs in the word started out as an inspiration and then turned into organized lyrics. Don't start out planning your whole song; it takes away the spontaneity, instead start writing and see where it takes you. Then when you have written a very rough first draft you can go back over and cross out, change and adapt, try to keep to just one story line at once, don't cross over into other's, there's always more songs for that!

What if you can't get it right?

It doesn't matter how many times you need to change your song to make it right, keep editing and editing, until it sounds perfect for you, and conveys the message and tone you intended, remember it is unlikely you will write a perfect song first time, after all if you get perfection what's left to strive for?

What about the music?

If you are no good at music, don't worry, there are plenty of people out there who can play the guitar, which is all you really need for a Country song, but even if you just know the basics, it doesn't take much to add accompaniment to your song, learn a couple of simply chords which you can repeat.

What's the difference between writing Country Music Lyrics and other lyrics?

Think of Country Music as telling a story, so your words should flow as if you were telling someone what happened, many take on a tone of confession, unlike other types of music, it isn't just about the chorus, it's about the words!

Will it be a hit?

You never know, if you want to make it a hit, you will need to hook the listeners in early on in the song, so add something very interesting in the first few lines and make that chorus catchy!! With a little work, you will surely find your inner Country Music writer, and be writing endless songs in no time!

Clarinet Sheet Music

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the most prolific composers was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who wrote music for several instruments including the clarinet. The clarinet is an instrument that belongs to the family of the woodwind. It is comprised of four hollow pieces of ebony, a barrel, upper and lower joints and a bell, which fit together to make a musical assemblage.

Clarinet sheet music is different than other r sheet music, since the clarinet has a limited tone production. Unlike the piano, which is called the "mother" of all instruments, the clarinet is distinguished between various types of flats. In music, a flat is used to reduce the semitone that produces a lower pitch. The clarinet needs that flat to accommodate its performance and play. There are various kinds of clarinets found including the E Flat, Bass and Alto B Flat, A Major, A Flat, C Major and D Flat. Most people prefer the B Flat clarinet.

Orchestras use clarinets according to the type of music they intend to play. Clarinets cannot be used to play all notes on a regular music sheet. They need to have special music sheets that contain clarinet notes. The B Flat sheet music is specifically written to contain notes that can be played in that style. Clarinet sheet music is very specific, and yet players can play high notes that may not be on the sheet music or "music score."
Today, clarinet sheet music is played in various styles of music -- namely classical, jazz and gospel. A clarinet player must remember the type of music, as every style has its own notes, description and forma. With growing computer software programs, clarinet music is now available on the Internet and can be downloaded and played.

Creating Music the Right Way

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Especially for new writers, the present mind set will surely create an impact to the music being written. Regardless of the mood, may it be anxious, happy, lonely, most likely it will translate to your composition. In the same way, your environment including the current season or even the time of the day, the product of your composition can be greatly affected. One of the negative impacts to your composition is your physical condition specifically being stressed out. It is never ideal to sit down and write your composition on this bad situation. Whether you like it or not, everything will reflect on your composition.

Several things influencing your music composition are enormous. Solutions are enumerated to help you find your way to creating great music composition. These are just some of them:

• Find the right color to stir your mood. Psychologically, this one is effective especially if there are limited resources around. All you need to do is to take note of the color representation then when in need of that color, set it as your background. For instance, to add calmness to your mood, you can set your background to pink. It is believe that pink gives calmness and tranquillity. Getting use to this strategy, you will be able to balance your mood.
• Portray the character of the singer that will render your composition. Just like an actor portraying a character in a scene; in order to be the best actor, he has to internalize the character and its role in the movie. Your composition will have a nice produce if you will be able to create your own character when the song is rendered. It will be easier for a music artist to render your piece if it can reflect a realistic and natural way.
• Observe nature. It is never found to fail for any artist or any person inclined to art to obtain inspiration from the beauty of nature. A perfect example is a painter. Most painters get inspired by what they see in nature and when supplemented by their imagination, a master piece is created.
• Reminisce the good times. This is one of the best sources of inspiration. Great compositions are those created from emotions. You can feel the true meaning of the song when it is rendered heartfelt.

Above mentioned are just few of the inspiration sources that you can get help from in writing your composition. A wild imagination can be your best asset. Everyone has it but few use it. Let it ignite the creativity that you have inside you. Creativity should be supplemented by your musical skills. You should of course understand the fundamentals before wanting to get the expertise necessary to create great compositions. The absence of one is less likely to give you desired results. It is foolhardy to hold back those brilliant ideas in music just because you don't have the abilities to express them. Remember that talent can be learned. It can be perfected through practice. It makes perfect definitely. It may sound a bit challenging but with determination to create great music, you may, one day, say hello to a great master piece!

Greatest Artists and Songs

Image : http://www.flickr.com

What would current musicians be without the foundation set by the legendary bands and classic artists that came before them?

Vivian Scott at Epic Records spoke the truth when she said that "There would be no new school without the old school". The status of "Legendary" and "Classic" when it comes to music is reserved for the best of the best. Even with thousands of bands with great music, there are always those that stand out from the rest.

If you want to discuss timeless music, Chuck Berry is one of the best places to start. Berry's hit song "Johnny B. Goode" in 1958 is so well known that I doubt any of you read the song title without singing it or hearing it play out in your head. This came from the same decade that brought you "Hound Dog" by the King himself, Elvis Presley, and "I Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash. But don't misinterpret this as age solely defines if a song is a classic. As new generations of music are ushered in, their best artists leave their mark as well. So move forward in time and you'll find: Aretha Franklin ready to teach you a little "Respect"; Van Morrison telling you what we use to sing in "Brown Eyed Girl"; and The Who, reminding you what this time period is all about with "My Generation".

With hundreds or maybe thousands of classic songs out there, no list could do justice to the these great bands. The fact that each decade has left behind it's own legends provides that generation the ability to interpret who should be on that list. Mash-ups and songs covered by newer artist prove the ability of the current generation's ability to represent the legends that inspired them. For example DJ Danger Mouse combined artist Jay-Z's "The Black Album "with The Beatle's "The White Album" to create The Grey Album; and you've probably turned the radio up as you heard the intro to Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" only to find out that it's a covered version by The Ataris.

But don't forget, many of these bands are still alive and some of them have continued producing music. You can always pick up Guitar Hero III and battle Slash from Guns N' Roses or look up tour dates for Metallica and Sting. In the music industry, it's possible to be a living legend. Just ask The Rolling Stones what it was like to rock out with the dinosaurs when you're at their next concert.

Essential Country Music Listening For Beginners

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you are just starting out listening to Country Music, you may not know where to start, or who to listen to, choose the wrong artist and risk being put off country forever. And with the diverse genre that is Country Music, it's best to start with the best. So here's a list of some essential c. music to aid a smooth initiation into the country genre. Enjoy.

Hank Williams

Start with a bit of traditional. Country how you would expect it to be - Hank Williams: Hank is considered to be the backbone of country and the pioneer of Honky-tonk a subgenre of country. Hank was born Hiram King in 1923 and tragically died in 1953 at just 29. He recorded greats such as "Your Cheatin' Heart," and "Hey Good Looking," he had 11 number 1 hits and his influence on this genre was widespread and is still felt even today.

Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash was a well known and well loved country music artist, his work is frequently seen to be very commercial in comparison to some other singers and he managed to live a long and lucrative career. His work has spanned many other genres, perhaps with some controversy for those who prefer 'pure country', but with success in rock and roll, blues and even gospel, he truly must be considered a multi-talented artist. There is a great sense of grief and redemption in his songs and with hits such as "I Walk the Line" and "Ring of Fire" under his belt, Johnny Cash is likely to never be forgotten.

Dolly Parton

Love her or hate her, Dolly should be listened to, if only to decide where you stand on the love/hate border, she is after all one of the most successful female Country artist of all time. With 25 number one hits and she wrote "I will always love you," which was covered by Whitney Houston," With the success she has managed and the songs she has written, Dolly Parton will always be remembered, for better or for worse.

The Carter Family

The Carter Family were early pioneers and the first proper Country vocal group; they recorded in the late 1920's up until the late 1950's. Much of their music has been covered by other Country and non Country artists, and they wrote the well known "Keeping on the Sunny Side," for their influence on the world of Country they will always be remembered, and are essential listening for those who are complete beginners this.

Once traditional Country Music, such as these listed here, have been explored, then modern is likely to tempt you. The world of modern C. Music is wide and varied, with sub genres leading off into the pop world, so it can take some time to find what you like, don't be put off however by one or two artists that you don't like or find annoying, because just like in any genre of music, there are many more artists to explore.

Ivan Parker Hits The Ground Running With New Project, "That Was Then, This Is Now"

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Ivan Parker's latest release, "That Was Then...This Is Now" shows Ivan at his best. The clear vocals, choice of songs and excellent production combine to make this one of the top releases of 2007. The first single from the project, "Hit The Ground Running" aptly describes the music as it is takes off musically where his last project, "Under Grace" left off.

Ivan Parker has released over 30 Southern Gospel projects. From his beginnings with the Singing Americans in 1982, through his Gold City Quartet years, until the present Ivan Parker has been a perennial Southern Gospel music fan favorite. He has been voted the Singing News "Soloist of The Year" in 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, and 2000. He has also won many other awards and has been inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.

The first song on the project, "That Was Then...This Is Now". is classic Ivan Parker and sets the tone for the project. The song, written by Jimmy Dooley, tells of how Jesus can turn defeat into victory. The joy in Ivan's voice turns this song into an instant classic.

"Hit The Ground Running", is a catchy song that will put a skip in your step early in the morning. The first single to radio, it is a wonderful song about reaching Heaven and the joy of being there. It is bound to be a crowd pleaser.

In line with songs like, "Redeemer" and"I Can Only Imagine", Ivan Parker includes a remake of Ray Boltz' contemporary classic, "Thank You". His "Ivanizing" of the song does it justice. The message rings true as does Ivan's rendition.

In contrast to "Thank You" Ivan includes a "churchy" version of my favorite hymn, "It Is Well". It may be the only low point on the CD. With that said, it is still quite good.

The last song on the CD is the classic, "Midnight Cry" live from the National Quartet Convention. It just doesn't get much better than this. This is Ivan, this is Southern Gospel Music, this is excellence.

Ivan Parker is one of Southern Gospel music's finest talents. "That Was Then..This Is Now" shows that after 25 years it is possible to continue to hone your craft and get better with each passing year. This is a wonderful project, a 9.5 out of 10.

The Offspring Greatest Hits Album Review

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Unlike many other Greatest Hits album's The Offspring chose to put nearly all their radio hits on this single album. Whereas other bands sometimes like to just put their favorite compilation of songs, The Offspring's Greatest Hits album really leans more towards what the fans wanted making this a CD that is truly all about the fans.

The album was released in July 2005 and published by Columbia records the same as some of their other albums. The album has been certified Gold by the RIAA so listeners can be sure that this was a reasonably popular CD comparatively speaking against other The Offspring albums.

For listeners who are purchasing this album simply to hear their new previously unreleased songs "Can't Repeat" and "Next to You", they may be slightly disappointed. The songs are relatively simplistic with "Next to You" being a cover of a song by The Police. Although the new material is not anything special, the songs included on this are pretty much everything you could want from The Offspring prior to 2005 if you are a casual fan of this band.

Expect their most popular and played songs on the radio such as "Gone Away," "Come Out and Play," and "The Kids Aren't Alright" to be on this CD in high quality so you will get a great listening experience.

This album is highly recommended for those who like punk bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Stone Temple Pilots. Their sound is a bit more Popish than Nirvana and more along the lines of certain Stone Temple Pilots songs. Because this album is comprised mostly of radio hits, it also contains much of The Offspring's pop song writing side and thus is a very good comparison to Thank You by Stone Temple Pilots. So if you liked this album, it is recommended that you pick up this one and vise versa.

If you do not already own The Offspring albums, then their Greatest Hits compilation is a fantastic way to start. It contains all the songs that the radio was playing during the mid 1990s and the early 2000s from this classic punk band.

Nigerian Music Videos - Stepping Up The Quality Game

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The foreign music videos were better than our locally produced ones. Despite hits such as: Nico Mbanga (Sweet Mother), Osita Osadebe (Osondi Owendi), Oliver de Coque (Boni boni identity), Mandy Brown (Taxi driver), Onyeka Owenu (One Love), Lorine Okotie (His love is that medicine), Charly boy (Before Before) Chris Okotie (ABC), Evy Edna Ogoli( Happy Birthday), Felyx and Mozes( Free), Felix Liberty(Ifeoma), Stella Monye (Nigeria go survive), as seen in one of my articles "The blossoming Of The Nigerian Music Industry", artistes failed to make the desired impact in the International scene, based amongst other things on the colossal deficient video quality account.

The 90's era was not dramatically better than the 80's, probably the mid 90's when the genre of music towed the path of rap / hip hop and the use of our local parlance in songs began to make the music industry more entertaining as opposed to the 80's. The Remedies (Edris Abdulkareem, Eddie Montana, Tony tetwila) keyed into it and became the rave of the moment at that time. Plantation Boyz (Tu face Idibia, Faze, Black Face) were incredible and soared to greater heights before the group split. The launching of Tu face Idibia's solo career with his hit track "African Queen" catapulted him to the top. Most Nigerians liked his first video, but unfortunately he had to re-shoot another in compliance with the direction of a popular foreign music TV channel. Style Plus's "Olu Fumi" also had a nice video in comparison with many that stormed our TV sets. Paul Play's hit song "Angel of my life" also had a cool video.

Perhaps, the turning point for the making of good quality videos stems from the stable of P- Square with the video for their hit song "Do me" which was shot in South Africa. The video certainly hit the International standard mark with various music inclined TV shows in Nigeria, constantly showing it. Artistes challenged by the solid production began to travel South Africa, USA, and parts of Europe to shoot videos of their songs. They also featured white skinned ladies dancing in the videos. Most top rated artistes patronise directors who have carved niches for themselves in the art of making quality videos. Tops on the list are DJ Tee, Clarence Peters (CEO of Capital Hill) and Bobby Hai.

The rise of Cally Ikpe's "Nigerian Music Video Awards" (NMVA) and Sound City Music Video Awards (SMVA) aimed at rewarding artistes with top notch videos have also contributed to the rise of good quality productions. Besides, artistes who have good videos have easy access to enjoy airplay on MTV Base, Channel O and other International music channels, opening wider, the doors which tend to give them access to fame and fortune.

Good, creative videos are catchy and draw attention to the artistes and of course, the director. Quality music videos that have made waves in Nigeria and even beyond include but not limited to: P- Square (Do me, Roll it, Ifunnaya), Dare Art Alade (Not the girl, More), Tu face Idibia (If love is a crime), Kel (Too fine), Keffi (kokoroko), Naeto C (Kini big deal), Bouqui (Take you away), Infinity (Olori oko), Asa (Fire on the mountain), TY Bello (Green land, Ekundayo), Gino (No be God), Djinee (Lade), DJ Jimmy Jatt (Too much ft Sasha, Blaise, kemistry, Bouqui), Alabai (Voice of God), Mo hit all stars (Pere), Omawunmi (In the music), Nikki Laoye (Never felt this way), Steel (South African girl).

Nigerian music videos have certainly helped artistes to clinch international deals / awards and are getting better daily. The duo of P-Square clinched the KORAH awards held in 2010 at Burkina Faso for the "Artiste of the year" category. The twins went home with the jack pot prize of $ 1 million!.

Access to latest Hi-tech cameras / technology, wild creativity, high level of professionalism on the part of the directors, will make Nigerian videos the talk of the town in foreign countries.

Choosing Drumset - Electronic Brands

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Just like other businesses delving on musical instruments, drumset electronic is presently booming, thanks to dozens of music-oriented hit reality shows and drama series turning very talented people into Hollywood and Billboard big shots. It's never too late to pursue that dream, and so if your eyes are focused on performing on stage hitting the drum pads with a to-die for rock star attitude, begin today by doing shopping on reliable electronic drumsets and cheap drum kits.

There are countless of electronic drum brands on the market, but note that the promising ones can be screened to four to six names. To avoid any form of bias, just do your homework and research for these top brands. It's certain you'll find them given the amount of positive reviews written about their products and services

All brands have strengths and weakness, and so in shopping make sure you are getting your money's worth by picking a certain set or kit not because of the price but of the quality features.

One of the primary concerns in drum playing is training. Hence in picking a set in the music store, go for the one that offers the most comprehensive tutorial and training materials. While it's true that training guides are overflowing online, the basics of using the drums can best be thought by the manuals incorporated with the set. Through these essentials, you will be clearly taught regarding the installation, set-up, and many other features of the set.

Years ago, drumset electronic devices were less superior to what they are now. During that period, there was a great divide between musicians faithful to acoustic drums and musicians embracing the new metallic beat of electronic. Advancement in drum paddings and central control system, however, has changed it. Today electronic drums are designed with capability to experiment sounds, which means so you have greater freedom to jump into and out of genres, from pop to rock to country to RNB and to alternative.

While it sounds wrong to choose a brand because of popularity, it should be noted that these brands are popular because of their performance in the market in the first place. These brands make sure that their products and services are in-line with what the music industry employs, sending across the fact that whatever award-winning music artists use is just similar to what the public can avail. This means you don't have the excuse not to be great.
