America's favorite soul band got their start in 1960. In 1961 they recorded for a miracle under the name of Elgin and primes.
The original line up included Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams (no relation to Paul States) and Eldridge Bryant.

In 1961, Berry Gordy signed the group, Motown, but there was already an active group known as The Elgin, has changed its name to The Temptations.
As David Ruffin,Cousin Billy Stewart replaced Bryant in 1964, that's when the hits started coming. Although Ruffin sang lead for many of their successes, the other members shared some of their songs other lists.
Ruffin, causing friction between the other members of the group and Motown boss Berry Gordy had been fired by the group in 1968. Kendricks left the group in 1970 after internal problems caused disputes over leadership of the group. Both singers for 1982 again"Reunion" album.
In the standings, The Temptations scored 37 times in the top 40 of Billboard chart weekly 1964-1975. Four times were the number one and many of their songs were sung by other artists.
Kendricks and Ruffin both had successful solo career with Ruffin with three Top 20 Billboard hits and four Kendricks, "Keep On Truckin '" are the number one.
