The year was a great one in the music world, as 2009 closed out a decade that saw major advancements in the way that music is written and produced. As lovers of the indie genre, we now have all kinds of new sounds to enjoy that simply never existed ten years ago.
One of the highlights of the year was some of the new talent that emerged via some impressive debut albums. Let's take a look at a few of the best new bands to hit the music scene in 2009.
One of the most critically acclaimed releases was the debut album by The XX. This is a group of four, based out of London, and their laid back sounds won the hearts of tons of fans.
Their album was recorded in a garage late at night, and this partly contributes to the soft, subdued sound that you'll hear throughout the entire album. Look for some great things to come from this band in the future.
On the electronic side of things, Neon Indian won the praise of many critics and fans alike. Their debut release was called Psychic Chasms, and made many year end lists as one of the best of 2009.
The best way to describe their sound is a psychedelic electronic sound that blends elements of dance music and rock. Many have compared them to Daft Punk, and the comparisons are certainly worthy as you'll hear the band's influence in their music.
While they emerged late in the year, Real Estate's debut still came out in 2009 and it was one of the better albums of the year all in all.
This is a young band based out of New Jersey whose polished indie rock sound would indicate that they've been around for many years. They've drawn comparisons to Yo La Tengo, and their music definitely carries similar undertones.
